What it is

Miyota, the Citizen subsidiary that sells movements to other brands, has made the 82 series since the 1980s. According to its spec sheets it beats at 21,600 per hour with about 42 hours of reserve. Laco uses it as the base of its Laco 2S (previously the Laco 21, on the 821A); Timex and Bulova fit it under its own name.

Current versions such as the 8215 and 82S0 hand-wind and hack; the old 821A did not hack. The 82S0 shows the balance through a window in the dial. They are simple movements that any watchmaker can repair.

For anyone who wants a reliable automatic that is cheap to service and does not need luxury finishing.

Maker: Miyota (Citizen). The figures on this page come from each watch’s spec sheet.
